Immerse yourself in the colors of Müritz National Park! We organize a Wildpainting course from Tuesday August 16, until Friday August 19, 2016, with our basis in Müritz National Park, which is on the eastern side of Germany. This is where nature can develop according to her own rules. Forests, lakes and wetlands create a breathtaking backdrop. The course will be taught in English.

Wildpainting

Wildpainting is allowing yourself to paint in ways you may have never attempted before and to immerse yourself in a natural environment that invites opening all of your senses: taking in the smells of the fir trees, the bog and marshes, feeling a mild evening breeze cooling your skin after painting for hours in the animated landscape – amidst the sounds of crickets, perhaps an overflying crane high in the sky above, and a deer barking far in the distance.

Leaving more established approaches aside, we let the place where we are and the vivid colours reveal to us what will be our next steps. To most people such an artistic process may be rather new. Everybody can participate, even if you have no prior experience in painting.
Depending on weather conditions we determine a fitting place at which we can paint with the group, somewhere in Müritz National Park. Among the beech and pine trees, the many light-reflecting lakes. We take good food along: coffee, tea, a cake, sandwiches and fruits. And then we paint several hours in nature, using the easels, boards and paper we brought along.

Where the sea eagle circles in an endless sky, where the osprey plummets into a lake from dizzying heights and where the squawk of the crane accompanies the spring and the autumn of every year there is a landscape that reminds us of fairytales and stories of the old days. With its dense forests, glittering lakes and wondrous wetlands there is something primordial, something wild about it which awakens our awe in nature. Let us marvel at it and preserve it for us and our children.

Practical

Participants are welcome to arrive on Monday afternoon August 15. We will start painting on Tuesday morning (the 16th). The course, which will be taught in English by Jan van Boeckel, will end on Friday, August 19. Each day, we try to paint for about four to five hours, with regular breaks for tea and coffee and lunch in the field. During the week we will also make hikes into Nationalpark Müritz.

The course fee is €400 and this includes all art materials, food and full overnight accommodation (4 nights) at Forest Youth Centre Steinmühle (Jugendwaldheim Steinmühle). The course fee has to be paid to Kunsthaus Neustrelitz, their contact information is below. For this course, there will be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 participants.
A participant is considered registered when the full payment is received and has been confirmed by e-mail to the person concerned. On July 31, 2016, it will be determined if the course will take place.

If the organizing part cancels the course (i.e. due to lack of participants) before the first scheduled wildpainting session on August 16, 2016, the participants receive a full refund of his or her registration. In case of a private cancellation after July 31, 2016 the course fee will be refunded, minus €50 administration costs.

Wildpainting in Nationalpark Müritz is also a group on Facebook!

Comments by earlier participants

“Connecting art and nature . . . to let go, to trust your feelings and to express them, through words and through images. To experience, and to undergo an experience. In one word: incredible.”

Frank, ‘With art to the heart of nature’ course, 2015
“Through this course, art became more a ‘part of me’. Through my creativity I can bring to expression what is going on inside of me. I am thankful for the loving and professional facilitation, for the many enriching themes which Jan introduced to us during this week. For me, it was a delightful, resourcing week in a splendid environment!”
