Colourful days in the inspiring landscape of Gotland
Few places left!

Wildpainting sets off in strong colours with the purpose to free the mind. Wildpainting aims to paint on appealing locations that entice the senses, one way or the other. This summer we will paint on Gotland, among the windswept beach pines, the pebble-covered beaches, oddly shaped sea stacks, old fishermen's sheds and Medieval churches. Our focus will be the intense Nordic summer light, that drew filmmakers like Ingmar Bergman and Andrei Tarkovsky to this magic island.

Practical

Painting course

We will start painting on Monday morning, July 17, all participants arrive latest on Sunday, July 16. The course will be taught in both English and Swedish by Jan van Boeckel.  Jan is an experienced Dutch artist and art teacher. All participants will receive personal tutorials as well. The fifth and last day of course teachings will be Friday, July 21. The next day, Saturday July 22, a last breakfast is served, before packing and the journey home or further on in Gotland. During the week that the course takes place, we will make excursions to surrounding nature reserves, beaches and villages in the region. We will also paint one day at Närsholmen, a peninsula and nature reserve on the southeast coast of Gotland, where famous Russian cinematographer Andrei Tarkovsky recorded most of his film The Sacrifice (Offret), in 1986.

Course fee

The course fee is €830 in total: €650 for the course and food (breakfast and warm lunch), plus €180 for six nights of accommodation at Kaupungs Gård. Also included is a shuttle service from and to Visby harbour or airport and excursions, coffee, tea and snacks during the course days, as well as the vernissage party on the final course day.
It can be wise to be early with your bookings of flights, trains and accommodation, in order to get a good rate, though we advise participants to not make bookings (flights, accommodations, etc.) until they have received notice that the course will definitively take place.

Lodging

Lodging in Kaupangs Gård is included in the course fee. There is one single room and four double rooms. In some of the double rooms extra beds can be placed. There are two dry air toilets at the farm for guests. Everybody brings his or her own bed linen and towels.
If preferred, one can also opt to stay overnight at other accommodations in the area (in that case the course fee will be €650, excl. lodging). In the area there are several hotels, B&Bs, two youth hostels and a camping. It is recommended to make bookings well in advance, as Gotland is a popular holiday destination in summer. If wanted, our hosts, Ida Junker and Tomas Carlsson, can provide more information.

Food

Breakfast and warm lunch are provided during the days the course takes place. These will be prepared by Luca & Ceciel, who's cooking and presence have become a highlight of wildpainting courses. We aim to provide high quality meals that are reflective of the local region and culture. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please inform us in advance. Evening meals are not provided.
The nearest groceries shops are in the village Ljugarn, at 4 km distance. In Ljugarn there are several restaurants, and within a radius of 20 km there are even more.

Comments by former participants

Somehow I feel less controlled and more playful when I paint in stronger colours, I can let go. And I allow my ‘personal handwriting’ to grow, and the pictures develop to be much more expressive. I feel that I have finally found my own ‘language’ in how to paint.

Good tutorials, the theoretical and practical exercises go hand in hand. Good to have breaks, to reflect on the progress and to learn from each other. Good company! A quiet environment, relaxing. A good combination, with the yoga and the food!
