It is said that the Inuit of Canada distinguish between dozens of types of snow: slushy snow, wind-driven snow, flying snow, etc. Could it be that snow is not always simply white but that there are in fact many different colours of snow?

In February, in southern Sweden, the sun rises at 7.30am and at 5.00pm it is dark again. Usually, in that time of year, there is snow. In that relatively short period of time the colour nuances shift from light pink, to light blue, to pale white and then later in the day make place again for ultramarine and all kinds of violets.

In this unique course we will investigate the rich colour palette that snow can acquire, stretching way beyond merely virgin white.

Practical

Art Course

We will start on Monday February 17, 2020, at 9.30 am. On Friday February 21 at 16.00 pm we will have a closing session.

Course Fee
The course fee is
€650 and this includes, during the course days: the use of all art materials, breakfast, warm lunches, coffee and snacks, light dinner, a unique outdoor sauna session. For this course to take place there needs to be a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve participants
. Notice: We want to encourage participants to come to our courses through public transportation rather than flying. Therefore those coming from outside Sweden who choose to come by train or bus (and are able to show proof of this) will get a discount of 25% of the course fee!

Lodging

Lodging is not included in the course price. You can stay overnight in the Romboskola (basic standard; SEK 70 pp/pn) or book a room at the nearby Mårtensbo hostel (SEK 300 pp/pn). We advise to wait with making bookings for accommodations, trains or flights until you have received confirmation that the course will indeed take place. Once you have received confirmation, it can be wise to be early with your bookings of flights, trains and accommodation, in order to get a good rate. Our local host, Alexander Baker, can assist you with this.
Rombohöjden
Our atelier will in the Romboskola, in the middle of the forest near the hamlet Hjulsjö, close to the mystical nature reserve Kindla and the 8 kilometres long lake Grängen, which most likely will be entirely frozen.
This is the habitat of wolf, lynx and moose. If we are lucky we might see the Northern lights.
Weather permitting, we will paint as much as we can outdoors, otherwise we will be in the studio of the Romboskola, the former school on the wooded hill of Romböhöjden.

Elements of the course are a hike in Kindla, a night excursion to listen to owls and other wildlife, and a unique spa session (with outdoor hot tub at Södra Hyttan).

Meals
We aim to provide delicious meals, rich in taste and with use of organic food whenever possible. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please inform us in advance.

Comments by former participants

Somehow I feel less controlled and more playful when I paint in stronger colours, I can let go. And I allow my ‘personal handwriting’ to grow, and the paintings develop to be much more expressive. I feel that I have finally found my own ‘language’ in how to paint.                                               Susan
Good tutorials, the theoretical and practical exercises go hand in hand. Good to have breaks, to reflect on the progress and to learn from each other. Good company! A quiet environment, relaxing. A good combination, with the yoga and the food.
                                                   Lisa
Good atmosphere. "Högt i tak", as we say in Sweden. The food - made painting even better!! Nice reviewing sessions.
